Okavango Delta Jacana

Jacana | Okavango Delta

THE EXPERIENCE

Enjoy a true Okavango Delta adventure, as the waters ebb and flow. Lie back in a traditional mokoro as you’re propelled through the reeds, along clear blue serpentine channels, or speed up slightly on a boating excursion. Greet a breeding elephant herd coming to drink. Watch a buffalo herd graze as you quietly breakfast. When the waters are low enough, take a game drive and scan for lion, wild dog, and the elusive leopard. On nature walks, witness an abundance of plains game, including red lechwe, tsessebe, and perhaps the rare sitatunga. Be delighted by sighting avian ‘specials’, such as lesser and African jacana, Pel’s fishing owl, slaty egret, African pygmy-goose, and dozens of others. Share tales around the camp fire long into the star-filled night.

THE PLACE

Jacana is located on a beautiful island in the Jao Reserve in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

THE CAMP

Surrounded by seasonally inundated floodplains and papyrus swamps, Jacana has five en-suite tented rooms, built on raised wooden decks to maximise views of the broad channels fronting camp. The main dining area is on an elevated platform nestled between two magnificent sycamore fig trees, framed by dense wild date palms, with a large viewing deck and open seating area around the fire. Being a water-based camp, Jacana offers primarily water activities with game drives during the summer months – dependent on water levels and time of year.
